We awoke on Sunday morning to a wonderful view across the beach but sadly we needed to be on our way. So, after a lazy start, our first port of call was Gruinard Beach which was nice enough but not as spectacular as our overnight stop at Mellon Udrigle.

Then onto the Falls of Measach at Corrieshalloch Gorge, which was a lovely woodland walk to a suspension bridge over the gorge highlighting the falls.

We then drove onto Ullapool which was quite quaint and Jo wanted to visit the Bothy Coffee Shop but as we needed lunch we actually stopped at the Seafood Shack that did an excellent haddock and salad wrap. It was huge so we were very glad we shared one portion.

After that, we needed to make our way over to Lairg and the Sallachy Estate where Jo’s cousin, Fiona and family live. But first we passed Ardmair Point and through Knockan Crag Nature Reserve. We were now crossing from west to east via more single track roads as Sallachy is in the middle of the highlands. Their farmhouse is in the middle of the estate miles from anywhere but in a glorious setting. The views across the loch from the kitchen windows were to die for. Before an excellent BBQ of venison burgers, Iain and Fiona took us out on their boat for a tour of the estate that extends the whole of one side of Loch Shin. A wonderful evening with the family (Fiona, Iain, Morven, Roddy and Elliott) as well as their friends, Alistair, Kirsty and Murray.

We slept well that night and we were treated to a sumptuous breakfast that included delicious, homemade pancakes. Before setting off, we were taken to feed the deer. A very special visit.
